Disneyland Park Day Essentials
I’ve been visiting Disneyland for over 40 years, starting with trips with my grandparents—my grandma always packed a big bag with everything we might need, plus snacks! Now, as a Magic Key holder visiting with my two kids—an 11-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son—I’m well-versed in what to bring for a smooth day in the parks. Balancing what we need while saving space for souvenirs. Since essentials like bottled water and sunscreen are pricey inside the parks, packing these items (plus a few extras) helps us avoid extra expenses and stay comfortable.
On cooler days, we always dress in layers and when it warms up I rent a locker for our sweatshirts and jackets. When we take an afternoon break, I always downsize the bag and switch to a fanny pack with a few of the essentials.
Here are the essentials I pack for a smooth Disneyland day:
1. Medium-sized Backpack
Just the right size for essentials and a few souvenirs, but not too bulky.
2. Reusable Water Bottle
Bottled water can run $5–$10 each. Refill stations are available around the parks, and you can always ask for water at restaurants or use self serve fountain machines to fill your bottles.
3. Wallet or Digital Payment
Disneyland accepts Apple Pay and other contactless payments if you prefer going light.
4. Sunglasses
A must-have for those sunny California days.
5. Hat
Helpful for keeping the midday sun off your face.
6. First Aid and Personal Necessities
I keep a small makeup bag with aspirin, bandages, tissues, floss, and a compact. Disneyland also has First Aid available if you need additional assistance.
7. Antibacterial Wipes or Sanitizer
Essential for quick clean-ups when snacking in line and after rides.
8. Sunscreen
I use Elta MD sunscreen, recommended by my dermatologist for sensitive skin. This brand has been great for my kids' eczema-prone skin.
9. Chapstick or Lip Balm
Dry lips happen fast with the sun and wind.
10. Phone Charger
Between photos, video, and the Disneyland app, your phone battery drains quickly. Fuel Rod stations are available in the park if you forget a charger, but they’re cheaper on Amazon before the trip.
11. Earplugs
We use Loop earplugs to soften loud noises, making for a more enjoyable day and offering a helpful sensory reset.
12. Reusable Straws
Disneyland uses paper straws, which tend to break down after a few minutes and can be annoying. We pack a few reusable straws for fountain drinks and other fun beverages around the park.
Other items to consider: sensory fidgets, and on hot days a handheld fan and cooling towel.
Packing these essentials saves money and helps us avoid extra stops in shops. Having these on hand makes our Disneyland days smoother and lets us focus on creating fun memories together.
